feed creation has been temporarily disabled to prevent abuse. existing feeds can still be viewed but not updated.
feedgen is something I wrote over a year ago as an exercise in learning Perl. I never got around to styling it, but all the functionality is there. You can create feeds, add items to them, and get links to feeds in RSS 2.0 format. You can also search the list of feeds by title.
The feed creation form includes a password field. This was originally intended to allow you to prevent others from adding items to your feed, and the backend logic is there, but I never added a corresponding field to the add item form.
In other words: if you create a feed, leave the password field empty, because otherwise you won't be able to add any items to it.
You can now register for an account, log in and post private events to the
Event Listings page.
Some behind-the-scenes tweaks that I won't bother to discuss, and some new things to click.
First, the
Event Listings page. This was going to be the "something new" mentioned below, but I never bothered to finish the really useful part of it (i.e., the login/custom functionality). You can still post events, though, and it defaults to displaying the current month and highlighting the current day automatically. Since I didn't finish the login stuff, the highlighting code is only based on the server's time zone, which is EST.
I also hacked together an RSS feed a couple days ago for random links and other hilarity:
smallcrimes.org feed (may contain offensive content)
And finally, I enabled anonymous posting on the General Discussion forum. Go wild. (All three of you.)
The forums have been reopened. Currently there is only one forum: General Discussion. Feel free to make suggestions for additional forums.
Also, something new is coming very soon.
You will like it. I guarantee* it.

The New York area show list wiki has been disabled. Hardly anyone bothered to post legitimate updates, and I got tired of the constant spam edits.
It may return in the future, but don't hold your breath.
Check out the New York area
show list wiki.
Forum removed due to lack of interest (how unsurprising).
Come back in late August sometime for actual content!
Something else might get posted here sometime. But don't count on it.
